"Limited Liability" IS the problem. If a company had to pay for all costs associated with spill and cleanup, and if that was the known risk going in, this would get done "right." Oil Companies would calculate the REAL costs and risks, and not some government manufactured upper limit of risk. Same goes for Banking - where we all assume the risk through the FDIC, Fanny Maye, and Freddy Mac. Hmm....sound familiar?

Right on Gil. I have asked every radio station in Indiana to play your song. They have all refused so far but then republicans control this area and they support the thugs at Big oil. Obama also supports Big oil and does not have a clue how to stop this disaster. Pandoras box was opened by BP now millions in GOM will die.

@debspeelman What I object to is your implication (repeated here) that because 'we all use oil' we all share in the blame for this disaster. The disaster was the result of gross negligence on BPs part, and it matters that they be assigned blame and take responsibility. We all wear clothes, too, but that doesn't mean we can't assign blame to sweatshop operators who skirt labour laws. I don't deny that Obama should have done much more to correct the lax oversight regime Bush left behind.
