http://www.sitmeanssit.com/blog Making decisions of when your dog can bite, and having the training tools and knowledge in order to stop them whenever is essential in practicing in this manner with a police dog or bite training dog. This allows us to get in much more control.

Daily demonstrations are done throughout the country with dogs taking bites from either a fellow officer, or someone friendly with the dog. It is also shown usually with the person being able to pet the dog afterwards to show it's temperament and training in being able to differentiate things. Doing it with yourself is similar. I am assuming that you know the dog, his training and his temperament, and not an adult dog that you just got yesterday that you would be unsure of both. Having the ability to control your dog to come off a bite is essential in any type of bitework and in a lot of instances, being able to practice this often on yourself is helpful.
