  • @Jubal24 M Audio DMP-3

  • What is a good preamp under 200.00 for the Shure SM7? I have one, but the output is wimpy.

  • I only wish those things could grace my ears one time in my life. :)

  • omg, i bet

  • Yes they are B&W 802 with an Adam A10 sub. Sound unbelievable!

  • ahhh are those B&W 800 Series speakers in the background!

    *drools*

  • I really don't like D112's.

  • The two mics I use for voiceovers are the Shure SM7B (dynamic) and the AKG C3000B (condenser).

Condensers have amazing response, but are often so sensitive that they call for shock-mounts, Pop-filters and an acoustically controlled environment, but the output is superb!

The SM7B is a workhorse vocal mic. My "go-to mic" choice for its excellent rejection of off-axis background noise and it has great shielding, in the event you have it near a computer monitor.

  • I'm looking for a new mic, it's mostly going to be used for rap / hip-hop male voices. I was thinking about purchasing the AKG C4000B, but I heard great stuff about the Shure SM7B..

Anyone recommend the Shure over the AKG or vice virsa??

  • I've gotta disagree with that condenser remark. High end dynamics (and the SM7 although reasonably priced is considered high end) are "smoother" sounding on voices than a lot of condensers. Some artists who use dynamics for their vocals:

Anthony Kedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers

    Brandon Boyd of Incubus

    Billy Idol

I could go on and on but the Shure SM7b and Electro-Voice RE20 are mainstays in vocal booths all around the world.

Michael Jackson on the Thriller album

    Avoid SM57 for vocals!

  • maybe live.. but for studio work a condenser is better.

  • Haha, good point! :-)

  • hehe, but do you trust the taste of a guy wearing that hat?? :P

  • do u recommend shure sm57 for vocals

  • Hey, I'll trust anyone who's in a studio like that one.

    Haha!
