The two mics I use for voiceovers are the Shure SM7B (dynamic) and the AKG C3000B (condenser).
Condensers have amazing response, but are often so sensitive that they call for shock-mounts, Pop-filters and an acoustically controlled environment, but the output is superb!
The SM7B is a workhorse vocal mic. My "go-to mic" choice for its excellent rejection of off-axis background noise and it has great shielding, in the event you have it near a computer monitor.
I'm looking for a new mic, it's mostly going to be used for rap / hip-hop male voices. I was thinking about purchasing the AKG C4000B, but I heard great stuff about the Shure SM7B..
Anyone recommend the Shure over the AKG or vice virsa??
I've gotta disagree with that condenser remark. High end dynamics (and the SM7 although reasonably priced is considered high end) are "smoother" sounding on voices than a lot of condensers. Some artists who use dynamics for their vocals:
Anthony Kedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers
Brandon Boyd of Incubus
Billy Idol
I could go on and on but the Shure SM7b and Electro-Voice RE20 are mainstays in vocal booths all around the world.

What is a good preamp under 200.00 for the Shure SM7? I have one, but the output is wimpy.

Avoid SM57 for vocals!
