No cars. No workers. Crows overhead. A lone cell phone rings, a train horn echoes in the desolate landscape....
Then a late WSOR Chicago to Janesville (CJ) train from Chicago pulls through the former GM plant in Janesville. Screeching wheels create a dissonant acoustical representation of what the eye sees.
Not even GM (EMD) locomotives like those pulling the train are made in the US anymore, the division sold and all construction performed in Canada. Only their diesel engines inside the bodies are still coming from Kentucky.
West they head, until the whole long train is finally in the yard.
Out there, at the edge of town by the fields, the world seems a bit more in order.

  • Government Motors is a disaster. GM lost almost the entire diesel engine market to GE since GE was well run and EMD was typical for all GM divisions.
