Hi, Im Peter Thawley, and I am the host of this video series on a new Sybase product, the Sybase Analytic Appliance. Im here with Dan Lahl, Director of Business Intelligence for Sybase, who will introduce this Analytic Appliance to us and tell us a little bit about how it will offload you transaction processing systems and allow you to run analytics, analog queries and reports easier, faster and more cost effectively. Welcome Dan. Thank you, Peter, it is a pleasure to be here. We here a lot about analytic appliances, especially in data warehousing. Can you tell us a little about the background and about why Sybase has chose to do this? Well we have seen that our customers and the market in general are really demanding two things. First, we see the data warehousing companies, companies that have data warehouses already, are running out of capacity in the data warehouse. They are just not getting the performance that they need out of it. Secondly, we see that operational systems, when they try and add analytics to that, it just brings the whole systems to its knees. You know, Dan, those are really not new problems, many of our customers have had those for years now, so tell us about whats new in the appliance that will help customers overcome some of those challenges. Its really exciting because it brings to the market something really new and its really new in three areas. Its fast, meaning fast implement and faster run queries. Its easy, easy to get your information out and run queries against the system. Finally, its affordable. Its at the best price point in the industry. We are really excited about the announcement we are having with the Analytic Appliance. So Dan, those are some huge expectations to fill, can you tell us a little bit about what comes bundled with the appliance to deliver on those? Weve put some amazing things in the box, literally. It starts out with IQ, our column based data base, the leading product in the industry for doing analytics, 1,300 customers, 3,000 installations. We include Power Designer with that, the leading data modeling tool. We include an ETL process, a bulk data loader, copies of MicroStategy for reporting services, and all of that is sitting on top of IBM Power Systems, and so what you are getting is everything in the box needed to get your analytics up and running. Wow, you know, Ive spent a lot to time doing performance and management related work on large complex systems so I am happy to hear that you have a management framework and consult in there. I understand that IBC just released a study where they indicated that of the existing vendors out there providing appliances in the warehouse space, systems management is the one big hole that is in most of the other offerings out there, so I am glad to see Sybase stepping up to that problem. Yes, in fact the analysts, the press and our customers have all said that is a piece of secret sauce that no one else has, so that is really great. So, Dan, can you tell us a little bit about where customers can go to get more information about the new analytic appliance. Well our customers can call their sales reps, of course. In fact we have put together a whole analytics team for answering questions about the Sybase Analytic Appliance. Also they can go to Sybase.com/analyticappliance for more information. And finally, they can go to our user conference, TechWave, not only to hear presentations specifically about the appliance, but also information at our booth and IBMs booth. So again, we are really excited about this new offering. Excellent, well I am sure that I will see you at TechWave.
