Michael Hubbard, 49, started searching for his father, Warren Powell, when he was just 18.
Thirty-one years later, he met finally him.
Warren Powell didn't know his girlfriend was pregnant when he left her (and his home state of Texas) for a career in the Air Force in the '60s.
When Hubbard turned 18, he began his long search for the father he never knew — and the father who didn't know he existed. After decades of frustrating dead ends, Hubbard, a retired Texas state trooper, tracked down Powell with the help from friends who were private investigators.
DNA testing confirmed Powell's paternity. Last month, the pair finally met. Hubbard flew from Dallas to Detroit to meet the subject of his life-long search.
The overwhelming joy — "I've just been crying all day and figured I was cried out, but obviously not," Hubbard said of the emotional reunion — was mutual.
"I've always wanted a son," Powell said, hugging his son. "So through the grace of God, I have one now. I can't tell you what I'm thinking, it's unbelievable."
After leaving Texas almost 50 years ago, Powell married and raised a family. His three daughters recently met the half-brother they didn't know they had.
