It's good that he mentioned about how he would use some of the 100s of billions of dollars we'd save via revising our foreign policy to help people who have become dependent on gov't programs. I've heard him say it before, but he doesn't say it enough. A lot of people think ending the welfare state has to mean booting people out in the street, etc.

What I figure is if I put in 7% of my income in social security to get a 3% return against 4% inflation, maybe I could do better in a stock-based mutual fund? If we can transition to a new system where everyone benefits, I'm willing to listen to the proposal. The alternative is pretty bleak.
