I was a young boy in Finland. We have so many great drivers like Saaarinen and Länsivuori. Thank you.

Que de bons souvenirs.....................

You can just catch a glimpse of Kim Newcombe and his unique Konig on the front row of the grid. In the wide shot you can see he doesn't get a very good start.

Kim Newcombe, a privateer riding on a home-made Konig special fitted with a modified 500cc two-stroke outboard-motor engine, was running 2nd in the championship when he sadly crashed and died in a non-championship race at Silverstone. After practice he actually requested that hay-bales be installed on the very corner where he was to die, but the arrogant Silverstone organisers thought it unnecessary.

this looks fast even by todays standards.

Great push-start footage, super video!

First of all : many thanks for publishing this vid. I was sitting on "block C" that time keeping the fingers crossed for Phil Read and MV Agusta till they went blue...
Nothing against the fast fin Saarinen- he was a truely great rider, but the MVs sound was much better than the japs screaming twostrokes.

Wonderful nostalgia!
Have you seen somewhere a similar scene from *1973* in which Agostini rides past the camera on a RD350, while someone else is being interviewed in the pits, maybe at Monza? 99% certain I have seen this but cannot find it anymore :-(
Saarinen is the father of the knee down, hanging off style that is still in use today in roadracing. Tragic, tragic day when he died.
