Recovering from a traditional abdominal hysterectomy can be a long and painful process. The open surgery leaves a wide incision across the abdomen, increasing the recovery time as well as the risk of infection. But it's not the only option.
Today, the da Vinci surgical system allows the surgeon to operate through several small incisions. That means patients experience shorter hospital stays, less pain, less blood loss and less scarring.
This is local patient Sharon's account of her unexpected recovery from a da Vinci surgical experience.
