Armida was a B western actress who was married (for a time) to Leo Gorcey, of Dead End Kids and Bowery Boys fame. She was the mother of Leo Gorcey Jr. This clip is from "Rootin Tootin Rhythm," a Republic western from 1937. The song was also done by Bing Crosby. Later, after "South of the Border" became a big hit in 1939, "Mexicali Rose" was reprised as the title of a Gene Autry picture.

Thanks for sharing. Any idea who the soprano was? She looked vaguely like Kathryn Grayson.
