Because of two thongs..first,its no bigger than a bicycle chain. Second...the oiler nozzle opening is too small. GM did a poor job informing folks of it..but the rrplacements are now all anyone stocks. My chain broke at 60000 miles..and these being interference engines..valves and head are ruined..if your lucky. Generally it ruins these engines. I jad the same noise..and thought it was due to using lightweight oil the week prior. Go buy the timing kit..about 175 bucks. Saves your ride.

the timing chain is usually the first thing to go in these motors. i have no clue as to why... :/
