  • hey man thats some great stuff. Do you have any tips for improv?

  • Tips - listen to great players a lot! Listen with your sax in hand and try to learn things you hear. Ask people that play better than you for help all the time and steal everything you can musically and make it your own. Keep 3-4 players in your listening pot and rotate them every few months. 1 guy and you can sound like a lame clone. A few and you can develop a voice that is you while taking good stuff from each.

  • Is that Ronnie Cuber on bari?

  • HAHAHAHA!

Not Even close, but a Cuber wannabe!

  • Any suggestions for a alto/tenor/bari saxophonist such as myself? People tell me I have the potenial and most likely will be the next lead alto in Jazz band even though I play bari in jazz, any suggestions on to how to sound more dominant and powerful? By the way, I play on 3 size reed but I used to use 3 1/2 size reeds for a while but stopped.

  • If you want to play lead alto, you need to develop the sound you want for that task. I would listen to as much big band as you can find and listen to the lead player. Then I would suggest trying out some mouthpieces if you don't think you Alto sound is commanding yet. Meyer, Lackie, Yanagisawa metal - try some louder combinations and see.

You might find your sound is fine and it is just attitude and confidence needed to fill the chair. A teacher can be a big help!

  • I used to practice solos and ritfs I heard from any instrument other than my own that I really liked, For instance, I play horn and say i like a piano or sax solo ,I would copy phrasing accents etc that are not necessarily comfortable on my horn and incorporate what I liked into my style. also another thing I would think of words and phrases when I was playing to give my improvs a more lyrical sound hope that is helpful

  • <3 god.bless.the.bari.sax.

  • Wow that's a great Bari sound.

  • Bravo! More more!!

  • Very nice! Packed a punch, but remained smooth at the same time.

  • Great video. Oh by the way what do you mean by " there will never be another you" right by Bubba Bryant. I met him back in 1999. In my opinion the best drummer I know

  • Thanks for the improv class Greg. Very listenable and nothing to far outta the changes like some of us rookies stumble upon. The rhythm though, solid as rock. Cheers.

  • very nice. :)
