@jeansim18 that's not true, the new airport of Quito will be open on 2011, cause is under construction 70% yet, check the corpaq and quiport web.

Well, this airport was built on what used to be city outskirts, but then the city grew around it. At the time, it was the best place to build the airport, despite the horrible weather. But I agree with you that it's better for this airport to be closed down. If it wasn't dangerous before, it sure is now. The new airport will be in a safer location (at least in terms of isolation, can't do much to change the weather).
