I bought the album in 1990 and cried so much my then 5 yrold son Joseph was worried I had to ex[lain that I had loved Marvin since he sang stubborn kind of fellow on UK television !!!

The fact is Marvin actually wrote this and several others for Sammy Davis jr when he was briefly signed to Motown. Marvin was a great admirer of Sammy, and wrote a whole album's worth of songs for him, with the intention of producing an album. This was the type of material that Marvin loved more so than the r'n'b hits he was rolling out. Sammy left the lable before Marvin could pitch the songs to him and Motown. Even so, the songs for Sammy seem to be autobiographical. Marvin was a true artist!

So if the picture I paint makes me a sinner or makes a saint, I want try no not I to deny it. I may cry with the past but its easier to laugh about it, when I think of my wonderful life, I thank GOD for my wondeful life. I thank GOD for your life also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY on tomorrow 4/2/39. (RIP)
