Bridgewater-Raritan High School Symphony Orchestra performs Finale (4th mvmt) from Sibelius Symphony No.2 in D Major in the 2006 Spring Concert. This was an outstanding performance! The magnificent melody of this great piece was unforgettable! This is part 1 of 4(sorry - had to cut to fit 100Mb) of the 15-min long piece --watch all!

  • Having heard it and some others live, this performance is outstanding at high school level without any doubt. I have a lot of respect to music directors of middle and high schools who have challenging work for the future of the classical music -- introducing great music and performing art to orchestra members and young audience that change every school year. So, lighten up and don't judge them the same way you judge London Symphony or Berlin Philharmonic;)

  • Dodgy intonation and feeble horns at the start. It settles down later but the conductor is very uninspiring. It's really slow and four square. Everything is mf and metronomic. It would be interesting to hear them at the right tempo with somebody a bit more musical on the podium.

  • London Symphony (LSO) did it fast in 14:02; Berlin Philharmonic(BPO) in 15:25 and Vienna Philharmonic in 15:58. This orchestra did it in 15:39 - nothing wrong with the tempo! Bravo to the conductor and the young students of the orchestra (10th-12th graders) for performing at such a good level!

  • chill out, this is a PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL. pick one out of the 30,000 high schools in the US, see if they can play at this level

  • hmmm.... the strings are MUCH better than the winds and brass. yikes.

  • wow. butchered much?

  • You all love sibelius, He lived near my house..

  • your so lucky to have a school orchestra like this...Its not as good as the youth orchestra im in but its still good.

  • This is one of my favorite pieces. Impressive for a high school orchestra, very nice.

  • My hogh school orchestra can play better, thus LAHS symphonic orchestra MUST BE FULL ORCHESTRA, NOT JUST STRINGS MR. GYURIK.

  • I use Lorin Maazel with the Vienna Philharmonic as my benchmark and he does it in 14:13... and this really does fell sluggish. If it sounded better then maybe it would feel less so... I hate it how a lot of youth orchestras just choose to play the last movement of this... the second movement is my favourite ^^

  • Having taken another listen, it still sounds slow but it may not be the basic tempo that's the problem, more the fact that it is very metronomic. There's just no phrasing or ebb and flow whatsoever. Hats off to the kids, I agree but it isn't "an outstanding performance" as claimed. Where's the passion? It seriously lacks drive and that's not a reflection on the children. "Your conductor didn't seem to get the point of the piece" was another verdict posted on this performance and I totally agree.
