The ancient words sung from the Egyptian Book of the Dead celebrate the coming of Ra as he rises in the eastern horizon, and also the coming of Osiris.

Nothing survives of the actual music from these times, but the aolian pentatonic scale, which is the melodic basis for the choir setting, has been found on ancient flutes from this period.

This piece is the 6th of Jeffrey Goodman's upcoming CD "Ancient Egyptian Music." When completed it will be available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby.

  • thanks for listening.

  • There is no actual surviving notated music from ancient Egypt, but there are many artifacts and texts that are suggestive of elements of music, so all the music in my series is an imaginative musical scenario that I hope people may enjoy.

  • @JeffreyGoodmanMusic The Coptic Church has elements of Ancient Egyptian, Hebrew, and Greek music. It is not notated, but most of the hymns were passed down by oral tradition by cantors.

  • @mimgboy Thanks for that information. It is provocative and inspiring to connect to these ancient musical/religious/mystical traditions.

  • All Egyptian music you've put out is absolutely stunning and well done.

  • @Logoo Thank you so much for your kind response to the music.
