This is a classic Channel 3 "Turn to 3" Promo featuring the WKYC anchor team of Judd Hambrick, Doreen Gentzler, Joe Conway and Jim Mueller circa 1985, courtesy of the "Director's Cut Blog with Frank Macek" at: www.wkyc.com/weblog/directors_cut
I watched WFMY & WGHP quite a bit where I grew up (south of Asheboro). Man, it would be great if someone posted that promo for WGHP, for I think I watched WGHP a little more than I did the Raleigh channel (that is, until WTVD went ABC and I was watching WTVD left and right).
Wow..just happened to miss catching that on WGHP, despite having lived there in mid-80's LOL! I do recall them using a localized version of ABC's "Now Is the Time, ABC (TV8) Is the Place" in early 80's...of course, I watched WFMY & WXII more often
I remember WNCT having it too, around 1994-95! Don't recall WGHP having it; when did they use it? I grew up in WGHP's viewing area then moved to where I could get WNCT..now I'm in FL.
@cllewis1 Actually, if you look closely, there was an "8" on the dial as well.

Wow, that TV dial was awesome right at the beginning. A 3, a 5, and no other numbers.

I had the good fortune of losing my virginity to Miss Gentzler in the late summer of 1986.

The RAL channel you're thinking of is WRAL, an erstwhile ABC affiliate until 1985, when ABC acquired WTVD and you know the rest LOL..
I was in Greensboro, til 1989..and got the Triangle channels without cable. Could you get Charlotte or SC stations in Asheboro back then?
