New 2011 BMW K1600GT - Full HD

The BMW K1600GTL and K1600GT are touring motorcycles announced by BMW Motorrad in July 2010, for production in 2011. The K1600GTL is a full dress luxury tourer intended to compete with the Honda Goldwing. The K1600GT is more of a sport tourer similar to the existing K1300GT and previous K1200GT models.

The bikes feature a new 1,649 cc (100.6 cu in) straight-six engine which is mounted transversely across the chassis. The engine is angled forward by 50°. The engine was originally used on the Concept 6, a concept bike that was shown at the 2009 EICMA Milan Motor Show. BMW claims that the engine at 560 mm (22 in) wide, just 67 mm (2.6 in) wider than the K1300 engine, is the narrowest six-cylinder engine ever produced. Cylinder bore is 67.5 mm (2.66 in) and the distance between cylinder centres 77 mm (3.0 in).[3] The camshaft is hollow, with cam lobes pressed on, which saves around 2 lb (0.91 kg). The engine has electronic throttle control and multiple drive modes which can be set according to road conditions.

New technology for BMW on these models include adaptive headlamps which adjust up or down according to how the bike is pitched in order to keep the beam flat, and left or right as the bike tilts to turn.

@SheRidesABeemer Maybe BMW thinks you need a very quiet bike to turn up to fancy restaurants and casinos - as in the GTL video? Seems like we'll need Mr Akrapovic for the proper K sound. Love your blog btw.

Nice bike, looks solid, and BMW's sixes always shine. i have 1 concern though: what is that whail? sounds like it's louder than the exhaust (not a fan of it either). they should work on that, and try to make it sound like a 3 cylinder

@daneusse Accurately capturing the sound of a bike flying past is very difficult, and of course the pitch will change as the bike nears and then gets further away ( due to the Doppler effect). I think it sounds refined and turbine like, better than the bag of nails sound you get from a boxer twin (HP2 Sport being the exception to the rule!)

@pmgodfrey Congratulations on your purchase of a new Goldwing. I rode them both, and liked them both but I ordered the GTL. But I'm also trading a Harley V Rod so my reference point is different than yours. I felt the GTL had the torque that I was used to with the V Rod and looked sportier than the Goldwing. But everybody is attracted to something different, thank goodness.

The BMW was smoother than the Harley, but not as nice as the Goldwing. The Goldwing outperformed the BMW in every aspect and looks much nicer too.

Full HD means 1080p! And even on 720p (HD) you are broadcasting just stretched 480p resolution as 720p, so stop lying about your titles just to get better clicks!

Besides it is a shame that BMW put a good given six cylinder steamhammer-engine into a couch with two weals! What a dissipation...
