Chinese cities are required by law to set up a comprehensive planning system and to create a master plan. Since all urban land is the property of the state and is leased for development, both land-use decisions and government revenues depend on the planning process.

The best place to fathom Shanghais ambitious master plan and to comprehend the sprawling city is at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, a monumental museum building in Peoples Square.
The major feature among many displays is a 8,000 sq. ft. city model at 1:200 scale that includes thousands of existing buildings, as well as
those approved for future construction. The immense model can be
viewed at ground level or from a mezzanine above. Another highlight is Virtual Shanghai, a computer-generated flyover of the idealized city projected onto a 360-degree screen.

  • @Denon3333 I do not know much about the general compensation rule outside Shanghai other than from media reports, maybe you could shed some light on this issue and give us some examples, preferably your own or you family members' experience? I know there must be a lot of under-compensated cases, but I did not encounter one myself. All I can be sure is the one I see for myself, and the rule for compensation in Shanghai is pretty much the same (of course adjusted for land prices).

  • @tophergraceful Could you perhaps see some other people getting compensated and ask them?

  • @Denon3333

Well, compensation is not bad in Shanghai. one of my relatives' old community was torn down for a project. they got 2 million RMB (about $300k) for the 20-30 m^2 (about 300 sq ft) apartment (no independent bath etc). The amount of money is calculated based on how many people are registered in that house if it is too small, or the floor area if it is a big house so you get more. The location is of course very good, but I think that money is fair enough for a slum-like apartment.

  • cool check out the vdeo response

  • @4duff5 Yeah, but many people are being forced outta their homes to build all this. I'm not opposing the construction, I'm opposing the unfair sum of money they give as compensation.

  • that's awesome visionary even

  • yay! go shanghai.
