solve compiz problems
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4YFS3DN0ag

transparent panel
rightclick than panel properties than select background and move the slider to transparent

transparent terminal
rightclick than profile preferences than select background and move the slider to transparent

for this we need app called as compiz , install it using synaptic , launch compiz config settings manager aka ccsm , than select accessibility than check/enable opacity , brightness and saturation , click on it , than in opacity in windows specific settings , (| = known as pipe , not lower case L)[on my netbook keyboard , this key is above enter and below backspace , press shift plus | , its with accompanied with \ backslash key]
click New than in Windows add Tooltip | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu (Note first alphabet should be in uppercase/capital)
and in Window Values add yourdesired value for transparency , i mean how much transparent effect you want , eg in here 70 (its in percent) ,
(1-70) lower values = more transparency
(80-100) upper values = lower transparency
reason i have used | pipe is to add same transparency effect to all of them , you can create different transparency effect to all of them by your desired values , eg if you need Menu effect to be 80 % click New than in Windows add Menu and in Window Values add 80 for transparency

add transparency effect to your apps/programs windows

use class= app/program name (Note first alphabet should be in uppercase/capital)
click New than in Windows add class=Gedit | class=Firefox | class=Nautilus | class=Evince | class=Synaptic | class=Liferea
and in Window Values add yourdesired value for transparency
(| = known as pipe , not lower case L)[on my netbook keyboard , this key is above enter and below backspace , press shift plus | , its with accompanied with \ backslash key]

  • is there some way to get the menus transparent and not the text on them???

  • @phonebooth19 Well depends on which plugin you are using. In my case it was "Trailfocus". In my settings only active window is not transparent. A bit more clear desktop so to speak. So I configured compiz not to make maximized windows transparent by adding this: "& !(state=maxvert)" to existing line.

  • How can I make it that the chrome would not be transparent but everything else still is?

  • @DJTimesTable That info was better than the video. lol

  • @jhomie1 You should try emerald themes then.

  • Hey dude thnx a lot this was fairly simple to do, but one question what if instead of the whole firefox being transparent i just wanted to make the upper menu-bar transparent like in windows vista or 7.

  • i hate your desktop and your themes sorry and i can read anything

  • nice
