A step-by-step talk-through of how I converted my van into a motorhome on a low budget. Includes tips and the lessons I learned from building the 3 different interior versions that I made in the same van.

The whole point of the exercize was to create a camper van on a limited budget. If you are pondering making your own van, watch this video, learn from my mistakes and save yourself a fortune.

The MK3 interior version I have today is built on exactly the same principals as the MK1 version illustrated in this video. It's incredibly functional and is a real looker!

  • Great job but leatherette looks cold and uninviting, hats off for your enthusiasm, well done .

  • @MrT9alizee Thnaks :o) Yeah I had cloth material before the leatherette, but it didnt mix with surfing and was constantly wet and dirty after sitting on it in a wetsuit. Same goes for carpet - gets so dirty so quickly. hence wipe-clean leatherette and lino floor - soooo much more practical :o)

  • I'd love a camper, MK4 VW for me. Times are hard so ill have to wait a while.

  • You need a place for 2 to eat to get the van insured?! You're kidding me?! Why do they care how many bags of fish and chips are bought? Weird...

  • Hi! First off, great video, well produced and informative (and in my opinion you should be a voice-over artist). Second, I'd like to say that I have been looking for ideas based around a VIP limo van type look and your camper does this idea justice. You have achieved what I hope to accomplish using the leatherette and foam, and I feel it gives it a nice open and 'airy' look with a touch of business class! Good luck with your adventures and changes to your van. Regards Grahame.

  • thanks for posting a good insight as i wasnt sure how to start the conversion regards kev

  • very nice as for the seats so easy you can sew velcro onto the fabric were the 2 sides meet so this way your able to remove and clean as needed

  • I would make a raised floor that would be the heigth of the weel wells so the floor would not have any obstructions. For heigth I would have removed the roof and installed or built a section that could pop up so you could walk around inside full up yet have good fuel economy since the roof would be compacted when driving. The space below the raised deck could be used for storage.

  • Nice van Rick..matter of fact, probably one of the better converted vans I've seen on youtube! Wish I had the know-how to do such work, but I don't, so I'm buying what we call a Class B motorhome here in the states...Roadtrek 190 is what I'm after...will check out other vids to see what you've done! Thanks for sharing!
