It's satire. Satire is kind to nobody. People satirize Jesus and Gandhi, even. It doesn't mean they don't respect them, it just means they can recognize how their lives and accomplishments can hold some humor.

Oh man Werner Von Braun was so far ahead of his time, if he was alive today he'd be prepped to make a fortune.

There should be an element named after this man! Lehrerium!

who is this idiot playing the piano with that smug look on his face??
-
@AntiChristAntiFail It was a joke, mate...
-
@CrapOfTheWorld Probably wasn't his choice, NASA missions are planned surgically and they probably, being noobs to space, thought having him in orbit in case of emergencies was a good idea. NASA itself is a genius collective, but even geniuses can be idiots, and most of them (for some reason) get jobs in positions that let them plan things for other people.

My parents had this record when I was a boy. I didn't understand the songs but sang with them and they stuck in my head. As the years went by and I grew, I slowly started to understand their meaning. Some 40 years later, I'm still listening and learning from them it seems.

@AntiChristAntiFail Michael Collins was though. Didn't even get out for a walk around. Pointless. Might as well have stayed at home.

Lehrer was a master of what he did, but I do have this ONE issue.
Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were NOT idiots.

Und I'm learning CHINESE...as we all shall be.

@uetzel, the answer is very simple: Tom Lehrer was -- and still is -- ahead of his time. He will remain hot for the next 250 years.

The colossal talent that is evident here is really daunting. Too many people
have bought into Lehrer's mock self deprecating remarks about his own
musicianship, but musicians know better. Classical pianists are torn
between gratitude that he did not elect to become a concert pianist, and
curiosity as to just what he might have done had he gone that route. He
certainly would not have been lost in the crowd.. I am in awe of this man.

@bozzelgreeb, you just wrote my favorite comment of all time. I sincerely hope that you click on my (rather stupid) unser name "6funswede" and enjoy songs like "The Vatican Rag" or "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park". Make sure to watch the 480p versions (read the channel/profile description and especially "previews"). Thank you soooo much!
