I have a problem with my XH A1. I try to connect my camcorder to my Imac and capture to FCP. But when i plug in my Firewire to the camcorder, the "HDV/DV in" starts flashing, and I cant capture in FCP. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

  • did you solve this problem? i have the same problem :( anyone can help please

  • Yes. I bought myself a NEW and better FireWire cable, and now it works!! =)

  • Just called Canon. I was told that if it is flashing then it is possible a bad firewire port. I still have warranty, so I am sending my off to the doctor tomorrow.

  • I now know its a problem with the firewire, because when i push the cable (which is connected to the camcorder) slightly to the right, I can capture normally! So I have to hold it there, while I capture :P

  • Filecut Pro | Easy Setup

    Selected:

    Format: HDV

Use: HDV - 1080i60 Firewire Basic

    Press Setup

So using your settings and just adding the "easy setup" I have been able to capture w/Canon XHA1 to FCP2

    Hope this helps!!

  • Thanks for the reply, but it did not help :(

When I tried your suggestion, i got the following message: "Unable to locate the following external device: HDV (1440 x 1080) 25p"

I tried to connect my camcorder to my PC, and it dident work there either. The problem is in the cable or in the camera.

  • @Andyax Which firewire did you buy?

  • when importing, do I need it on vcr/playback or ext. connect

  • i m not sure i shoot in 60i and encore it at 29.97 prgressive so i couldn t say

  • @C4n4di4n1 Yeah im doing that, capturing in premire cs5. Ive put it into after effects and it still says 25f even though i shot it at 50i, is this supposed to happen?

  • are you capturing with premier pro ? when you first open your file in premier pro the settings of the PROJECT is probably your probleme ... open a new blank project and capture it from there with the CORRECT PROJECT SETTING in your case 50i ... if your already doing that right ... did you try getting that old software from canon called CANON CONSOLE ? ... i got it in some torrents the software is useless .. BUT when you install it it also installs drivers that FIXED ALL MY ISSUES reply me np

  • @C4n4di4n1 Hey i have a problem with capturing with my xh a1. I film my stuff in 50i but when i capture it in 50i it goes back to 25f whats wrong with it? thanks

  • 1-althought it doesn t install right .. it will install some drivers for the camera and AS of then you will be able to CAPTURE in 1080i without any issue on adobe premier pro ... cs5 .. .

i finally got it to work hope it helps some of you guys

ps i can t capture anything with canon console but adobe premier pros cs5 works like a charm (and remember when you capturing you will only see the image on your CAMCORDER but controls will work perfect on the software on your PC) peace!

  • if any of you are still having the probleme capturing with the hx a1 canon .. if it only captures in 480i and not 1080i on adobe premier pro cs5 PC ... this is how i finaly was able to capture in 1080i and the image is incredible

1- you need to find and install canon console (its a software made by canon) to capture ... now i m running on win 7 and it didn t install properly BUT win 7 will promt you and ask you if you want to reinstall using the correct setting or juste remove it click instal

  • hi everyone! if someone can help me please!...when i send the final sequence to the camera (canon Xh A1) it only passes sound, no image..thank you very much
