  • @myEQlife1106 I don't think this rider is doing a poor job. I think that the horses during this time weren't as broke as they are now. Equitation used to focus on being effective, not being perched on top of a horse looking like Americas Next Top Model on horse back. Keep in mind some of todays top trainers competed in the maclay finals in the early to mid eighties!

  • @mupp3tbab3h yeah, but you could be a great rider but not be able to afford a 100K horse and the judges wouldn't even glance at you

  • This is how I like EQ were its judged on the rider and the horse does not play any part in the placing. Now you have to have a perfect horse and perfect form.

  • can you imagine just saying that you rode in madison square garden!

  • I really really wish Maclay finals were still held in Madison Square Garden- it would be so awesome!

  • Really makes you think about how the equitation world is going to be 30 years from now. We will look back at the 2010 Maclay class and say the same things that are being said about this rider. I think equitation should be about the RIDER. Period, end of story. It shouldn't matter what horse you are on top of. The best rider with the best equitation should win every time. Regardless of the horse.

  • @stuckonrewind I think i was hinting more at the fact that the expectations of today's eq riders are rediculous

  • its so odd how things used to be back then. This looked more like a jumper round to me. But it seems like it was a much friendlier atmosphere when you didnt have to look PERFECT.

  • @kelseybreennn Well said.

  • anyone can ride well on those quiet, perfect little eq horses that we have today. it takes talent to look nice on a horse like that. i think THAT should be what equitation is all about; not who has the fancier/more expensive horse.
