Produced for the 2010 Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit, this segment debunks the Food vs. Fuel myth by showing the virtually unlimited production capacity of Iowa and American farmers.
Ethanol only contains 76,000BTU. This is compared to 116,090 of BTU of energy in a gallon of gasoline, the difference of about one third the amount of energy in a gallon of gas. To put it simply, 1.53 gallons of ethanol equals 1 gallon of gasoline and this significantly lowers the fuel mileage.
You are not counting the fuel of oil by products during planting through finish product that produce ethanol or corn by products.
