  • Hi Italianoperafan,

Are there any videos on Youtube yet of the orchestral introduction to Zaira and the big duet for the two women that he re-used in Capuleti? If not, you should consider making them! Or anything else from this opera! There seems to be so little on Youtube.

  • Myto has released this "rare" opera (MDCD0013)... ;-)

  • this role is so odd and fantastically difficult to sing. A cross between zerbinetta and medea a real voice shredder. The coloratura is so wird and goes to show that a rather hotblooded and energized soprano is required. I feel here we are still far away from the clarity of the role. But is seems so oddly written .

  • Grazie italianoperafan per questa "rarirà" chiamata Zaira. E poi con l'eclettica Scotto..

    Splendido!!!!

  • That is one hell of an entrance aria! Even though her voice began to darken a lot in the mid-70s, she was still able to lighten it enough to sing the coloratura. A couple of less-than-ideal high notes aside, this performance is - as always with Renata - electrifying. How lucky are we to have an obscurity like Zaira, interpreted by this superb artist in her prime?!
