Are there any videos on Youtube yet of the orchestral introduction to Zaira and the big duet for the two women that he re-used in Capuleti? If not, you should consider making them! Or anything else from this opera! There seems to be so little on Youtube.

this role is so odd and fantastically difficult to sing. A cross between zerbinetta and medea a real voice shredder. The coloratura is so wird and goes to show that a rather hotblooded and energized soprano is required. I feel here we are still far away from the clarity of the role. But is seems so oddly written .

That is one hell of an entrance aria! Even though her voice began to darken a lot in the mid-70s, she was still able to lighten it enough to sing the coloratura. A couple of less-than-ideal high notes aside, this performance is - as always with Renata - electrifying. How lucky are we to have an obscurity like Zaira, interpreted by this superb artist in her prime?!
