Here's something fairly unusual -- it's a floor polishing attachment for the series of Hoover upright vacuum cleaners made from the late 1920s until the early 1930s. I believe this attachment will fit Models 700 through 925. The user removes the rug-cleaning agitator roller and replaces it with the floor polisher roller, as depicted below. The longer, fluffy bristles will spruice up previously machine-polished floors; however, my experiments with the attachment demonstrated that it is not hearty enough to do a thorough job of buffing out freshly paste-waxed floors. One really needs the heft, weight, pressure and torque of an electric floor polisher designed specifically for that purpose.

But, hey! That's no particular aspersion cast against the Hoover Company -- most of the major vacuum cleaners offered, at one time or another, some sort of floor polishing attachment for their vacuum cleaners, none of which ever really reached the performance of dedicated floor polishers.

And it's a fun and interesting addition to my growing collection of vintage Hoover floor-care machinery! You can see photos at www(DOT)137(DOT)com(SLASH)hooverpolisher.

  • Do you realize what you do? You forgot something ... THE BAG!

  • @alexandro98b - No, I did not forget the bag. Watch the video again and listen closely to the narrative.

  • why would you have to remove the bag.

  • @crazychrisva - for a couple of reasons. (1) By blocking the exhaust you greatly reduce air flow. When using it as a polisher you wouldn't want to risk air going through the motor since it may also draw in wet wax. (2) The motor revolves more rapidly, meaning the polishing action will be greater. (Not saying this is a good idea since the motor can overheat.)

  • grear accessory to have!!!

  • i would love to have a polisher attachment set for my all original 725!!! unusual to see one. only ever seen it in the back of instruction manual.

  • Very neat....seems a bit cumbersome to use though compared to the Kirby version.

Out of curiosity, does that old Hoover agitator only have the beater bars on it? It didn't look like it had any brushes on it...
