  • It most certainly is. Most of BJJ comes directly from Judo, so it should be no surprise.

  • I wonder if this was the basis for the Brazilian "clock choke". It looks pretty similar except for the second hand, which firmly holds the other side of the gi...and the head positioning, which in BJJ you try to get your head completely to the mat to maximize the tension.
