Remember the time when samples were something you sampled and not loaded from your hard drive? When a sampler was a machine that could record samples, not just play them back.

As samplers became software instead of machines, they came to rely on external sample editing software for recording and editing the samples and the art of spur-of-the-moment creative sampling was pretty much lost. Now we are bringing it back to Reason 5 with its live sampling input.

  • It sucks that you can't record on Reason 5, because I really like Redrum. After using Reason's Drums + Guitar amp while recording through Audacity, much of the sound quality of Reason's drums are lost.

  • @Hypothermia333 You can record in Reason 6 now, though. :)

  • They should definitly put Reason, Recycle and Record together in one program...

  • I love Reason. Been using it for years. I keep looking at Ableton but find Reason more usable!

  • @naughtystudios how can u say that the reason is more usable ,,i don't wanna start a fight here with fellow producer so don't get me wrong ,bu here is a task 4 u , restrech any sample /clip from original bpm lets say 140 to 5bpm to create a texture from it ...in reason ull need 15 minutes minimum to do this ,in Live ull need 15 seconds ...and the story doesn't end with restreaching... im nat saying Live is better then Reason ,i use them bouth ,but usability is on the ableton side

  • @TheSpinalMushroom Yeah, I know. I just got Reason 5 and I'm still recording guitar with Audacity. Do I need to seperately get Record 1.5 just to record sounds?

  • @PropellerheadSW

I see! Unlimited sounds good. Im gettin reason 6 soon because of this. So far Ive been using reason 5 and cubase sx3 for the vocals.

  • @ItsGottaBeFuckinSaid Yeah but Reason 6 has full and unlimited audio tracks. The 30 seconds you're referring to in Reason 5 is for recording samples into the samplers.

  • @fagatron97 You can - but only about 30 seconds worth :-(

  • @TheZerohms can't record audio in reason 5 pal
