I was wondering which one of the two would be the most comfortable device to watch a movie. I usually bring PSP with me to play games and watch movies. Now that I have also a HTC Touch HD, where will I watch movies? On which one? Will the touch hd be just the same as a PSP?

PSP is bigger but with lower resolution. Will the Touch HD compensate the lower dimension with a higher resolution?

I know the video is not really well done (made with a cheap camera), but from the test I could notice:

HTC TOUCH HD:

- a low bitrate (requested by the given power of the device) just doesn't really highlight the hi resolution (800x480), and the image seem pretty 'blurry'.
- a very high bitrate will ensure wonderful picture quality, but almost never as smooth as a PSP rip (some slowdowns on the touch hd)
- almost every DVDrip (like the one you watch on PCs) runs smooth almost the whole time. It is weird the difference between the 600 wide video and a 800 wide video is unnoticeable. In the test I'm playing both WVGA video and a DVDrip, and in reality the difference is not big at all. I would say the DVDrip looks better (maybe because of no slowdowns at all)....also the two samples have the same bitrate. A higher bitrate with the 800x480 would mean not 100% smooth

PSP:

- the display is nice, actually is really bigger than the touch hd. The lower resolution just doesn't make the psp worse.
- every rip is always smooth. To have such smoothness on touch hd i would have to lower bitrate

So I think finally the best vote goes to PSP because of the dimension of the screen. The higher resolution of the touch HD doesn't make it betterlooking.

Best thing of the HD: can play DVDrip, so you don't need to rip again (like for PSP)...you just transfer your rips from the PC, or just download from the net a normal DVDrip and play it. PSP requires double work (one rip more), as the PSPrips are not that easy to find on the net....at least in languages which differ from english.

  • Hey mate you running a custom rom on your HD? Try running a newer rom (TOPIX 2.9.4) with a newer version of core player. I download videos and no need to convert them at all to run perfectly on my HD now.

  • i can also play dvdrips without problems.

i mean, it's what i've showed in the video...

the psp though remains better. i don't know, maybe it has something to do with the panel, the contrast and the colours...dunno.

  • psp is 16.7 million color, not sure the hd is that. videos on psp should play better.

  • I can't remember touch HD how much is it. Anyway windows mobile (the operative system) is limited to 65k.

The difference is not so big, if I look at the two screens. I'll try better next time.
