One of my friends Nyeko, I met a few years ago while I was living in Seattle, WA. I spent a fair amount of time with him and during that time he shared some stories about his home in Nothern Ugana and about the children that get abducted to be raised into "soldier children." He told me stories of hiding in the tall grass to avoid getting taken and getting beaten. In the end, he is simply grateful for the opportunity to make a life in the U.S. and thankful he's alive. Since he has been in the U.S. he has lost a cousin to one of these village raids. This song I dedicate to him and to the other 3rd world children who are forced and manipulated to become "soldier children."
