A clip from A. Minghella's "The Talented Mr. Ripley." The scene takes place on the train to San Remo, a trip that Dickie (Jude Law) intends to be his last with Tom (Matt Damon). He's unaware of the true finality of the journey. The transition from this scene to the next is wonderful.

  • i never understood what he meant when he said 'that thing with your neck'. any enlightenment?

  • @violinvixen08 -- I believe he means the way Tom was staring at their reflection in the window. If you look closely, he seems to be aligning their faces, which I think is another of Tom's ways of "becoming" Dickie for a moment.

  • thanks for the clip. I love this movie so much.

Do you have the bathing clip as well??

  • @curvaceouskiller452 Glad you like it. I love this movie too, although I didn't appreciate it until I watched it a second time and read the book. I don't have the bathing clip, but next time I watch the film I'll grab it and put it up.

  • Spooooookyyy. Spoooooo-ky ky ky ky ky ky ky

  • @lesshair Yeah you're right - Tom is trying to kiss Dickie through the reflection as he is in love with him. There is some homo-eroticism here. That's all; no other deep meanings. :)

  • @bachfan2005 The Tom Ripley from this fil version is definately gay. It's an astute observation that Tom is not a very sexual being, because he isn't. However fused with all his love and obsession with Dickie, and his opulent lifestyle, is a concrete physical attraction. Tom can't have a physical relationship with Cate Blanchett's character because he is gay, and later goes on to develop a homosexual relationship with the Kingsley character.

  • Tom is neither gay nor straight - he’s really not very sexual at all, although he is quite capable of having a somewhat physical relationship with a man or a woman - his need to be close to Dickie is not sexual.....

  • Soooooooooooooo fucked up. But stil

  • when i first watched this film, my bro was laughing at me because i couldn't stop starin at jude for the whole part of the movie that he was in ;) xx

  • @SunshineIsDaShit

Me, too, but I do not suddenly hear cool saxes and dissolve to a cool Italian club, though.

  • @tnilfo That's a good point but I always thought that more than the head Tom is aligning specially their lips, as if kissing Dickie. It novelty to nobody that Tom is gay. The scene in the bath is there to prove it.

  • I loved that movie till the moment dickie died then it got boring !!

  • gay is kinda spooky

  • @violinvixen08 I think he thinks he stretches his neck when he smells him
