A group of RISD students calling themselves the Urban Curators have spent the last month finding and highlighting art in the most unlikely places in urban Providence. Passersby may have noticed gilded, museum style frames on sides of deteriorating buildings, crumbling walls, on fences and on doors.
"By accenting the places that are often ignored or disregarded by passersby, we hope to compel people to reconsider their prior conceptions of beauty and worth," said one urban curator. Their goal is to engage the public in recognizing the aesthetic value of the decaying urban environment and to celebrate overlooked spaces and objects within the City.
They encourage people to get involved by framing something in their own environment and posting it to the website. Essentially, they want everyone to become an urban curator.
More information can be found on the urban curators' website, http://urbancurators.com.
