All that electrically lowered stuff would drive me nuts. I like being able to just open the door and grab a plate or food or whatever. Not pressing a button and waiting like 6-10 seconds for the damn thing to lower. God help you if you forgot something.

Irradiation was and is a method of preserving food by zapping it with radiation to kill everything in the container. It was safe but never saw much use beyond foods for the military and space exploration.
