I downloaded this video from the now defunct Google Video and uploaded here so it's archived and isn't lost after Google Video deletes all it's content. Original description bellow:

This is a presentation on science, religion, and how poorly-designed humans, the Earth, and the universe really are. The presenter, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is the new host of the PBS-TV program "NOVA scienceNOW", director of the Hayden Planetarium in the Rose Center For Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. He is the recipient of seven honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal.

This is a really good presentation. And I have to say, around 35:17 is the funniest Freudian slip I've ever heard.

evidence against ID? I have a better idea, present a convincing argument FOR ID and the discussion can continue. That's kinda how it works...person makes claim then backs up claim with evidence. NOT person makes claim then tells everybody that they are not obligated to provide evidence because the skeptic has to prove them wrong first.

"What is your understanding of I.D?"

ID is creationism disguised in a lab coat. Google the term 'cdesign proponentsists' for starters and see for yourself.

ID is hard to define. Quite simply because it isn't a real idea, in the sense that it doesn't deal with a specific scope of facts or explanation. It's a fallacious plot of creationists to sound less religious.

Bottom line: they say that things are "too complex" to have arised without some "designer" (=argument from ignorance).

"There is an order to things"

So? There's order in a crystal as well, yet it forms happily on its own without any 'intelligent' intervention. Clearly, order can arise from chaos without the help of supermen.

"I.D for me is completely devoid of any religious aspects"

    Now, you're just contradicting yourself.

"I don't believe life arose by chance or randomness"

Nobody asks you to 'believe' anything at all.

    "but by a transcendent force"

    Why?

"What that force is, I don't know"

Then why do you believe it? Why even mention it? How did you come up with it? See, it makes no sense...

It's like saying "I believe all my money is hidden in a box. I don't know what a box is nore do I know where this box is nore have I ever seen such box, but I believe it holds my money anyway".

Well then I apologize. I'm not sure if I'm using "I.D" correctly. I'm not pushing it forward as an alternative regarding Darwin's evolution. I'm talking about the origins of the universe itself, and everything else... There is an order to things, I don't believe life arose by chance or randomness, but by a transcendent force. What that force is, I don't know. I.D for me is completely devoid of any religious aspects, and recent creation of all living things. What is your understanding of I.D?

He isn't trying to disprove Intelligent Design but he is very clearly stating that it is a tool of scientific ignorance, which in essence is the same thing?

It's kinda like asserting that there is no valid evidence for the microwave oven. Or the computer. Because science made it!

Creationists are a funny bunch. it's pretty clear that most of them don't actually believe what they claim to - or they don't understand what it is they're claiming faith in. But they like playing a team sport whilst pretending it makes them righteous. They're apparently too lacking in self awareness to understanding that their overt dishonest takes any hint of that away.

You kinda need to actually watch it, so you have a clue what it is you're criticizing.
