North African night in Chicago, circa 2004. Song Baba Bahri - a sufi saint in Tunisia. Excerpt of the this song was modernized into pop music by Kazem Saher. Trance is called hadhra & it's repetititive head & torso movements in order to get closer to god. Totally different from Turkish whirling dervish, but hopes for the same result. Try not to do this at home unless you are well instructed to do this since one can get whiplash. (same effect as attending a headbangers concert). You want to keep the neck straight without hyperextending it. (Just trying to obtain effect of flipping the hair).

  • Sufism is an innovation and not from the Islam Allah ordered his messenger Mohammed (peace and blessing be upon him) to convey. Plus Allah never asks anyone to do anything sinful for his sake, thus, when he said that music is haram and the flute is the tool of Shaitan, he would not accept it. Always, the Shaitan has people do things clearly haram under the pretext of being closer to Allah. If you want to be close to Allah, worship him, do dhikhr. We are Tunisian and we don't accept suffism.

  • Sally an Nabi Please refer to wordpressdotcom (2006/08/30) for explanation of hadhra & what's acceptable. Hadiths are

mentioned. You as Tunisian, you should be exposed to hadhra/dhikr in this video clip at video google, search for hadhra3. This video shows it all. You can review others.

At today's kutbah, the sheikh mentioned that not only do we have to fear allah, but love him too. As shahado ilahi il allah anna ahobbo

  • Are you Tunisian? In Tunis there tributes to sufi saints & festivals. When people hear the music, it takes them to that level. Similar to the Moroccan berbers whose modest rhythmic, movements are supposed to bring them closer to God, Tunisian sufi hadhra can be strictly religious for private worship but there are public ones. This performance was to have Americans appreciate a different sufi style (from Turkish)& it's significance. Insha 'allah, others won't be as closed-minded. Bislaama -M

  • im tunisian andd i never see this ugly dance in my country w hamdoullaah !!

  • What the heck is wrong with her!

  • It's all bed3a بدعة. It's certainly not a part of Islam, 'cause no one at the prophet's time did this. In Islam a person is closest to God when praying, nothing is mentioned about crazy brain-damaging dance in the quraan

  • That doesn't look very healthy. It must be damaging to the brain on some level

  • I agree

  • agreed

  • this is the most stupidest dance ever and i am tunisian! i dont see a reason for this:(

  • i agree with you...
