The story is that Tancha was a poor village. The king and his enboy were to visit Tancha and the village did not have any gift to present to the king. So the villager came up with the song and dance to entertain the king.

There is a beach area in Okinawa called tancha. As you can see the dance depicts the scene of a couple going to the ocean to get fish to sell in the marketplace. Two parts to this dance the songs Tanchame & Ichihanari Bushi. Every dojo has their version of this dance.
