The rules of the tournament is that Barbados HAD to win by 2 clear goals to progress.

Granada would have progressed since the game was B 2 - G 1. Barbados scored on themselves to tie the game, so they could go into sudden death. Until the end of the game from that point, Barbados was defending both sides of the field, so that Granada wouldn't score on either goal.

Barbados then won by scoring a goal in the Sudden Death, which gave them 2 points to 0.

It's simple, ahem! The organisers messed up by making the Extra Time Golden Goal worth two, thinking it would be fairer, goal-diff-wise in the group stage. No group stage draws were allowed. So Barbados needing to win by 2 and being 2-1 up near the end realised that an own goal would force extra-time where they'd try to get the 'double' Golden Goal. Grenada then realised that only losing by one would see them through and tried to score against themselves while Barbados defended THEIR goal. Haha.

Aye, and then Grenada realised that to score in EITHER goal would put them through. So at one stage Barbados were defending both goals simiutaneously lol.

A pity there aren't more complete highlights than this on youtube. It dosen't at all capture the sheer insanity of the thing.

i just read this story on snopes and the rule was Barbados had to win by two clear goals and were 2-1 up at the time. thinking they couldnt score a third they scored against themselves to take it to penalties. penalties had a ridiculous rule of allowing the winner to get a 2-0 result in their favour
