"Kevin, I don't know what's wrong with me."
"What'd you mean?"
"I should hate him. I want to hate him. But when I see him, I... I can't feel this way about him."
"Maybe you just never got over him. He really is a nice guy."
"You don't understand. You don't know how crush I was thinking about how he just forgot me. He hurt me really badly."
"I know, but maybe he's changed."
"I can't trust him not to do it again. I know he's your brother and you think he's a great guy and..."
"And I think what he did to you was horrible."
"Really?"
"Yeah, even his brother can see that. And besides you're like my sister."
"Blake doesn't even wanna be my brother anymore, why would you?" I asked, turning away.
"Hey, Blake's just going through a rough time too. And I'm gonna talk to him cause I think what he did was pretty bad too."
"And what about what you did?"
"It was wrong of me to leave and not check in, but I promise you I'm not gonna do it again." For some reason, I felt like I could believe him. Maybe it was because I needed to be able to believe him. I had no one left to believe in without him.
"Ok, but if I put my trust in you, and you let me down, I'm done for good. I hope you know that."
"I do."
"Fine, and nice hair by the way," I said, grabbing one of the curls hanging in his face. I hadn't seen him with curly hair in a long time.
"Shut up, I had a rough night last night too, so sorry I haven't had time to straighten it."
"Who said it looked bad? I think you look cute with curly hair."
"Sure, whatever, I'm gonna go get ready. Come get some food if you're hungry."
"Thanks, I'm gonna sleep some more, I think."
He laughed. "Ok, I'll check in on you in a little bit."
{Kevin's P.O.V.}
I walked downstairs and found Joe face down on the couch with his head buried in the pillows. Did I have to take care of everyone? "Uh you ok man?" I asked.
"She didn't have a fight with Blake, did she? She was drunk, wasn't she?"
"What? What makes you think that?"
"Well, first of all, she smelled like alcohol when she came in. Then I heard her getting up to puke. And then I heard you talking to her this morning."
"You were eavesdropping?"
"No, I was walking past, and I heard you say, 'that's a hangover for ya.' Then I came down here and buried myself in the couch."
"Ok, she got drunk at the party last night."
"This is all my fault. I hate myself," he moaned.
"All right, Joe, listen to me, don't do this. She just needs space. I'm gonna help her get back to herself, or try to, and then we'll see, ok? It'll all be okay one way or another, I promise."
"O...Kay," he mumbled.
"O...Kay," I mimicked.
"Hey guys," Nick said, coming in. He was all dressed and everything.
"Well, you're sure off to an early start," I said.
"I'm headed over to have breakfast with Rebecca."
"Ooo," Joe and I teased together.
"Shut up, we're just friends. Now, if you two first graders are done, I'm gonna go."
"Wait, uh, Nick, I'm gonna need you to do me a favor," I said, grabbing his arm to stop him.
"What?"
"Look, they're gonna ask you about Riley..."
{Rebecca's P.O.V.}
I was so excited when Nick asked if he could come over for breakfast. I was so happy he was back. He had been my best friend for almost as long as I could remember. We had talked a few times since they'd been gone. Mostly letters, but I still always considered him my best friend, and I hoped it was the same for him. But I knew I couldn't expect it, so I tried not to get my hopes up.
I had followed their career closely the entire time they were gone, and I was so happy for them now that they were getting the attention they deserved. Their new CD was amazing, better than the first, even though I didn't think it was possible. And I always got so excited when they were on Disney Channel. And every time I saw them, Nick looked better and better.
I had never thought about Nick as more than a friend before they left. And when I found out they were coming back, I didn't even once think about anything happening between me and Nick. But then I saw him, and I'm not gonna lie, he looked really good, and, I don't know, I just got this feeling in my stomach. But, again, I tried not to get my hopes up. He was a celebrity now. Besides he was probably dating that Miley girl. But I did take the time that morning to make sure I looked nice when I went to answer the door.
"Hey," he said, smiling when he saw me. I felt the butterflies just from his smile. God, I was pathetic.
"Hi Nicholas," I said, hugging him. I could do that. Friends hug. We've been hugging all our lives. "I mean Nick. I'm really trying to get used to that. Whenever I thought about you, I'd always correct myself to make a mental note."
"How often were you thinking about me?"
