Erm, that 'thing' is a gear/bearing puller/splitter,... or you could always use a cutting disc on a dremmel to cut two lines at opposite sides of the stuck race then with a large flat screwdriver split it off the hub...

That's actually the purpose of that tool...

In case anyone is wondering, this part can be purchased from Harbor Freight Tools. Item # 3979 Manufacturer: Pittsburgh. It's a bearing seperator meant to pinch between a bearing and the shoulder of the shaft that it is mounted on, to push the bearing away from the shoulder so that it can then be grabbed with a puller to finish the removal. Thanks eagle483 for this tip!

That's okay but take it in consideration that when you clamped that bearing race, it is putting a pressure against the spindle shaft and by twisting it like that, you might scratch the spindle. But all and all it's a good trick to take out that old bearing race. Is the spindle okay? I might try this then.

@ChuckManiac no issues with the spindle, as I never tightened it that hard. Just enough to clamp the race, but not tight enough to clamp it onto the spindle
