Coho female and male spawning. The female actively cleans the gravel and digs a pit with her tail, preparing her redd (or gravel nest) where she will deposit her eggs. The male when then fertilize the eggs and the female will then cover the eggs with clean gravel. The eggs icubate below the surface in the gravel for 30-40 days.

Coho salmon are endangered in California. Lagunitas Creek in Marin County is home to the largest wild-run of coho in Central California.

Creek naturalists lead walks to view endangered salmon spawning all through the winter months. For more info and to register for a walk please visit
