Do you know the lyrics to Killing me softly with his song? You know, the way the lyrics of a song are written as if the writer has been reading your thoughts. This record from 1926 should be the theme song for all record collectors all over the world, since the lyrics are about a record collector, who never finds a girl and never gets married due to the fact that he spends all his time sitting by his old gramophone. Doesnt it sound all too familiar?
Anyway, I first heard this recording in the early 2000 when I got a cassette tape with various Swedish acoustic recordings, and then I fell in love with this song immediately, and Ive wanted the actual disc since then. A month ago or so, I finally got hold of it.
Its a late acoustic Polyphon recording with the legendary comedian and singer Thor Modéen (1898-1950) who appeared in most light comedies on the cinema during the 1930s and 1940s. He had a great talent for comedy and managed to save many crap comedies by doing appearances worth remembering. He was a lover of practical jokes, and seems to have been just as fun in private as he was on the stage. He is probably one of very few entertainers who have been fined for being too funny when he appeared on stage at a stage show at Sportpalatset in Stockholm, Christmas day 1935. Anyway, he worked very hard and did lots of movies and stage shows and gramophone records, but he also enjoyed the bottle a bit too much, which in the end would end both his career and life early. He was only 52 years old when he died in 1950.
"Grammofondille" finns det nog inga botemedel mot - hoppas jag i alla fall. :D

Så sant, så sant. Apropå kom att tänka på en låt Ernst Rolf sjungit in som heter "Grammofondille". Som går ungefär: "Jag har köpt en resegrammofon som heter duga./ Tie kontant å en femma per kvartal. /Nu så är det livet på en pinne i min stuga/ å när ni vill vi ställer till med bal! osv."
