A1 Tornado drags A4 Mallard from NRM York to NRM Shildon.
Seen at Northallerton, Heighington and NRM Shildon
First we see some daily trains at Northallerton before the movement.

At heighington Tornado and Mallard Glide past.

Then at NRM Shildon we see them both at stand still, then Tornado Leaves for York then crewe

P.S. First shot of Tornado is at 4 minutes ish

  • Nice to see the old girl out, two famous locomotives, shame she isnt in steam though, to say she's the fastest steam locomotive in the world, she's stuffed and mounted. One day she might steam again

  • It is excellent that Mallard will remain just as she is for hundreds of years to come, to maintain her originality. There are three other A4s in this country all on the mainline or being overhauled for the mainline. We don't need a fourth.

  • @trainboy94 Mallard is just moved temporarily for more space in the main museum

  • @BIASpotter True. The people at the NRM I spoke to argue that a full overhaul is fine on 4472, because the percentage of 'original' parts from the original engine is low. However, on Mallard, the percentage of original parts, according to them, is very high, so to overhaul it would be 'sacrificing authenticity'. My answer to them is that it is not authentic for her NOT to have an overhaul and be kept in steamable condition. Not sure they agreed.
