The Lido shuffle is a very tricky and broken triplet shuffle. Here it is shown, slowed down and broken apart into easily digestable parts. The left hand is the secret with the ghosted triplets.

  • Thank you so much for the nice comment.

  • That was one ass kicking break down. Thanks for posting this it saved mega hours of learning time. You rock!

  • @Hammerhead786 Thanks, man. I'm glad you like it. I wish youtube had been around 30 years ago. I have always been capitvated by this drum groove. I usually just stop what I am doing and turn the radio up and listen to that intense and subtle ghost note triplet. Wow. Jeff was too hip!

  • very smooth playing, but it would be nice to have the bass, hihat and snare broken down...as in when the triplets on the hihat are played..ie one, let, two, trip etc

  • Hey Greg,

I tried several takes and wanted to be concise, so I chose to simply play the groove super slow and let the viewer come to their own understaning of the groove. Here's a little more explantion for you. Hihat - standard shuffle patter, which is simply the 1st and 3rd beats of the triplet: 1-let, 2-let, 3-let, 4-let, etc. Bass drum is similar. 1-let, (2)-let, 3-let, (4)-let. Parenthesis notes not played.

    Snare contined.......

  • Snare: 2nd beat of the triplet on beat 1 and 3 and the 1st and 2nd beat of the triplet on beat 2 and 4. : (1)-pul-(let) 2, pul (let). (3)-pul-(let), 4, pul (let).

To me, without actual notation, this just get confusing and it's easier to simply to try and decipher it by watching the slow portion and counting along.

    Hope this helps you.

  • Thanks for the breakdown! Could you please make another video with the shuffle played at a slow tempo for at least 3-4 minutes. The breakdown is great! its just that the slow tempo part is very short in time. Thanks for your consideration. Jim

  • very nice!!!

  • Very good Jim

  • Jim, thank you so much for breaking the shuffle down the way you did in this youtube posting. I have to say that it was driving my absolutely CRAZY trying to smoothly incorporate this shuffle into the song (as my band recently decided to play it). However, you have, by far, the best "break-down" of the substantive technique that comprises the shuffle and, after many, many hours working on it, I think I finally got it. Like you mention, it is not like the "standard" shuffle we are all used to!
