Sarah Zaman, Urdu VOA News, Washington
Global UGRAD is a student exchange program run by the US State Dept for undergraduate students in countries that have underserved populations. Pakistan was included in this program last year and so far 100 students have participated in it. Students come from all over Pakistan and study in various American institutes for one semester. The purpose of this program is to build bridges between American and Pakistani people and students are given a chance to do community work and meet local families and leaders and learn about America and also inform Americans about Pakistan. All expenses for this program are paid for by the State Dept and students go through an easy application process. Students interviewed in this report had just arrived in the US from areas like Swat, Hunza, S.Waziristan, Larkana, Batgram and many other smaller cities. Alina Romanowski of the State Dept was also interiviewed.
