Jackie Ross has the perfect 'Chicago Soulstress' voice. She has that innocent sounding soprano that was so evident on many a Chi-Town record. But this girl can let it go with a fury, and that makes her the complete package. Sing it sweet, or sing it tough. Jackie does both on this 1964 track. The flip of 'Selfish One', this record deserved more listens. Chess was peaking as a Soul label when this was cut and it shows. Jackie's performance...well it's fantastic. A great record by a woefully underrated artist. A Universal Music Group recording.

the first time i heard this song was in 1981-82 on richard pegue's saturday night dusty show on WGCI FM/WVON AM. great quality post as always. as far as chicago soul goes,the two of us pretty much got all points covered! lol!

glad you like this. one of my faves. as far as having chi-town covered, i'm sure your tent is bigger. i always seemed to fall back into my pgh-type ballads. doo-woppy type stuff, so i don't have as much hard edged things as you i'm sure. but it's all good. i love your vids.
