Having given two eulogies myself (my mother's and her mother's, my grandmother), I understand in some small measure how profound such a speech is. Giving meaning to someone's life, let alone the many Lincoln was doing this for, is excruciatingly difficult, even when those left behind know that Christ is telling that person "Well done, thy faithful servant". Not only are you grieving, but you usually are the final one responsible for shaping how they will be remembered.
