"Rose Madder"
by Stephen King

This was a book I checked out from the library. It's one of the few Stephen King books that I don't own and have never read. It's a fairly easy read, but has 2 main themes. Basically there's a husband and wife concept. He's the ultimate wife-beater. She decides on the spur-of-the-moment to run away and he comes after her. Then there's this idea about a painting she finds in a junk shop. It was a little confusing reading it. This book is not my favorite by Stephen King, but still is an interesting read. I would recommend the books "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", "The Eyes of the Dragon", or "IT" to anyone who is even remotely interested in horror stories. All Stephen King's books involve some supernatural aspect, and I think most people just focus on the blood and guts before deciding they don't like his books.

I would rate the book a 6 out of 10. It's fun reading to see how crazy the husband gets, but the story has been used before in other books.

  • This is definitely one of my favorite books by King. Yes, most of King's books have a reoccuring theme, but this is because nearly ALL his books and short stories are linked. The painting is a symbol for how Rosie figures out to become a strong woman on her own, and I certainly didn't find it confusing. However, perhaps it's a good idea to start off with a less confusing King book to be able to slowly catch on to how all his books tie in. And for serious King fans, The Dark Tower, for sure.

  • He kept it real in Gerald's Game.

  • This book was beyond weird, even for Stephen KIng and that is saying something ! (haha).

Really though,I LOVE SK and all his books, namely Bag of Bones and Storm of the Century--if you haven't read those, you should, not gorey or gruseome, just a bit creepy--and am able to read fast and remember 100% of what I read, but this book actually took me twice as long to rea.Don't get me wrong,it's a good book but the picture thing was a little much for me.

  • This book was confusing. I agree with you when you say he should have kept to the Husband and wife aspect and steered clear of that ultra confusing painting aspect!

  • great book, absaloutly thrilling, scary, somwhat disturbing, diddnt quite understand what the painting bits were all about but fuck me what a good read, BRAVO!!

  • You're totally right !! I don't like this book of Stephen book either but he has indeed many good books. Try Misery, it's one of his only books without a supernatural thing in it. It's very realistic.

  • I couldn't get through it. I bought it, and started to read it, it was NICE. But when she entered into the picture I thought: "That's stupid" and then I couldn't read the rest of it.

    "/

I hope one day I'll read it.

  • This wasnt one of his better, but i enjoyed this book :)
