Here is a compilation of photos from the 1961 Motion Picture "West Side Story" This particular version of "Maria" was not in the Robbins/Wise film but on the original West Side Story (1957 Original Broadway Soundtrack). This version sung by Larry Kert is absolutely breathtaking and in my opinion, much better than the film version. I hope you enjoy it and please leave your comments.
FYI: Watch the pictures in the video intently while listening to the song and you'll notice that at certain points the lyrics of the song and the pictures match up in timing to tell a story. I did this delibrately Hope you enjoy it.

I still cannot believe they cast such a lamer as Richard Beymer as Tony in the film, or had such a poor singer dub his vocals. Larry Kert's performance is exquisite, powerful and tender at once - electrifying.

I think this guy sings better than me. I rarely hear a singer who knows how to control feelings in songs. This guy is a true master.

He's the original singer. This is the recording from the first Broadway cast back in 1957.
