One of your best so far.

Thanks for sharing this story Cody. Good to hear that everyone made it home safe. It's defiantly one of those life altering moments that you reflect upon for a long time. We could all stand to learn the lesson that you found on the lake that day; always wear your safety equipment because when things hit the fan, there's rarely time to react.

I made my living as a boat captain for quite a few years, and know all too well how quickly the conditions can go from benign to very nasty, even on a lake. Glad that you all came through this relatively unscathed, and maybe your story will inspire some people to rethink their boating safety practices.

Thanks for posting these 2 vlogs. Sounds like u were profoundly humbled by the experience.
Your message about folks needing to take safety advice seriously is most appropriate also to MCs. So many people underestimate how rapidly things can go tragically wrong. They often fail to realize how truely unprepared they are to face forces in the universe they can scarcely imagine. We are asked to 'wear the gear' for a reason... alas many must learn life's lessons the hard way :-(

I must admit, when I'm boating I seldom think anything is going to happen, and I shouldn't be that relaxed. They are there for a good reason.

Besides in a boat when I water ski I always wear a life jacket and not the flotation belt. That belt will not keep me upright in the water if I fall and hit my head.
When I was getting my diving cert one of the guys was bragging about how good of a swimmer he was. Instructor shoved him into the pool fully clothed and told him to put up or shut up. 10 minutes later we all realized the difficulty of the task. Kid really was a pretty good swimmer too. Had a close call in a bass boat about 12 years ago...worn mine ever since.

I wouldn't say I am a good swimmer, have always said I can swim good enough to save my life.. guess I proved my point :). Swimming with all my clothes on though was a very eye opening experience... something I hope to never repeat :)

The ones we bought are like a type 2, where it goes up your chest, behind your neck then back down your chest. They inflate to provide 25+ pounds of bouyancy.
I have been meaning to buy a recharge kit for mine.. then jump in the water to make sure it does actually work as described :)
